Overwhelmed by spam, and your spam filters are no longer very effective? It's not so much the filters losing effectiveness, as the spammers getting more effective. Here is one solution that can help reduce how many spam emails you get:

Since your primary domain email address is a catchall account, it will route ALL mail to your domain unless it is routed specifically to another email account or forwarder you have set up. This means you can get email such as 6djxghsty73@yournewsitename.com or even heyyou@yournewsitename.com at your primary domain account. If you are using common prefaces for your email accounts such as info@, admin@, sales@, support@, webmaster@, etc., most spammers send to those addresses at every domain in the world, because chances are it's a valid email address for a lot of domains.

Solution:

1) Make a list of ALL email addresses you are currently using in your web site/s, business cards, etc. Choose one of these to be your new main email address. Make sure you use an unusual prefix for it, such as lastname@yournewsitename.com or something that is NOT one of the above prefaces. You don't want it to have a preface that every spammer already sends to.

2) Create your new main email account in cpanel->Mail --> Manage/Add/Remove Accounts -> Add Mail Account.

3) Set up the new main email account in your email program (Outlook or Outlook Express etc.). The email address blank must match the email account you just set up (for instance lastname@yournewsitename.com). The account name or username must be the full email address with a + sign instead of an @ sign, for example lastname+yournewsitename.com. For password use whatever password you gave that account when you created it.

4) Go to cPanel -> Mail -> Forwarders -> Add Forwarder. Using the list you created in Step #1, set up a forwarder for each of the remaining domain email addresses you currently use, so that each one is forwarded to the new main email account you just created (lastname@yournewsitename.com).

5) After you have all your forwarders set up so you are sure not to miss any mail from any email addresses you expect mail at, go into cpanel ->Mail ->Default Address then click Set Default Address. In the blank where it says Send All unrouted mail for (domain), type

:fail:no such address here

complete with the colon on each side of the word fail

What this will do is bounce all unrouted mail that is sent to your account. Unrouted means there isn't an email account or forwarder set up for it. So the only email you WILL get is what is sent specifically to either the new email account, or to one of the forwarders (which will then forward on to the new email account).

If you have addon domains, do this for each addon domain in your account as well.

This is not a total solution, but at least it should cut down your spam significantly especially if you are getting mail at every preface @yournewsitename.com.

Some other customers that have tried it say it's cut down their spam by about 80-90%.
