YaWPS (http://yawps.sourceforge.net/) - A cgi web content management system that does not need MySQL so it will work within the confines of a free NPCS hosting account. Just upload the script files, set the permissions on specific files as named in the readme, and surf to the install file to complete installation. Then you can administer the site, add content, etc. from its own backend.
Anne wrote that in a prior thread.
I'd never heard of YaWPS, so I went to the site.
If anybody wanted to see it first-hand, here are some demo screenshots.

Advice and ideas regarding web portals will be appreciated.
This portal will be interactive using Content Management features.
Thanks,

Hey-
Different hosting packages have different options. Which do you have?
Let me know and we'll be glad to help.

I like Joomla alot as a CMS. Before giving advice I'll ask a few questions though (1-2-Wonder has several good ones to choose from for different needs).
1) Will this be your first CMS? Or for that matter website?
2) Will it be more for fun or more for business?
Just getting idea so I can advise the right one for you.

This will be my first CMS.
The site will be for the "against-human-trafficking" community,
a portal for professionals and victims.
Current website:
South Texas Coalition Against Human Trafficking / Slavery
http://www.coaht.net/
I was considering Post-Nuke. Any comments?
Thanks,
Brandon

Current website's nice by the way.
If you're the webmaster of that, the learning curve for CMS won't be overwhelming.
Postnuke was my first CMS. I liked it. Only reason I switched was templates and add-ons. Joomla offered more, and I've been using it ever since.
If I were you, when you're in the mood to try em' out, install Postnuke and Joomla, see if either are more intuitive, look or feel better, etc.
You get lots of databases with your hosting package, so if you just install them in NEW separate directories (NOT your root directory cause you have something there probably), if you like either Postnuke or Joomla and want to later switch a good one to the root directory it's just a few folders to move.
That wasn't meant to be specific directions. Just some general stuff. You may have specific questions, if so fire away. For example, have you used Fantastico before to install a database (such as Postnuke)? If not let me know and we'll get you started.

The current website was designed by a member of our group, Amy Minton,
I'm site admin.
Good idea on the dual installation.
And no, this will be my first encounter with Fantastico.
Thanks,
Brandon

That's okay, Postnuke was only my second website. I liked it alot for the 2 months I used it, it's definitely interactive so go for it.
Whenever you're ready, be it now or later, we'll help you use fantastico for the first time. Like any effective tool, there's a few mistakes with consequences, so 2-minute instructions are essential if you haven't read a manual, but it's really easy. I still can't believe how easy it is to install a database like Postnuke using it.

I haven't read the manual -- so please help me around the pitfalls.
Joomla and Postnuke should have very similar installation, yes?
Thanks,
Brandon

Sounds like you're ready so let's go.
First two things, before we start,
1) Do you have a website on the domain already?
2) Do you know how to login cPanel?

It's new. I just got to the domain a couple of hours ago.
I'm logged in to the cPanel now.

In the home of cPanel, you'll see like 40 buttons on the middle right like email, ftp...the very bottom is "fantastico." Click that to open Fantastico.
On the left, the third section is "content management," click postnuke.
Don't do anything else. Want to take this step-by-step.

Click "new installation" on the right
* this only applies to thankam if anybody else is reading this. this is his first website on the domain. again, this is his first website on the domain *
Okay had to write disclaimer, so you clicked new installation and now on the right is stuff to fill in. If the domain is right leave it. Leave "install in directory" blank (if you were to install joomla as dual site, you'd type joomla so it installs on www.your12wondersite.com/joomla) leaving root directory intact. Admin user/pass are going to be your site admin credentials. Fill in what you want and write em' down. You'll need them to edit site. Rest of stuff is self-explanatory. Maybe change site name so it's just name without .com, type a slogan, change admin email to yours, etc, when done...click "install postnuke."
Post back when you're done or with questions, we'll keep going.
Almost done believe it or not.

Sounds like you're done with the install. Maybe you already started tweaking (logging in with user/pass from fantastico).

Thanks for your help.
I can't think of a more helpful forum on the internet.
And, what happened with Domain Protect?
Is this being still being used?
Brandon

If you ordered domain protect, which it sounds like you have, nothing happens to it, it's always on.
Good job. Glad you got it working.

And, what happened with Domain Protect?

Yes Domain Protect is still being used but not for ".us" domains because it is now against US federal law to use domain protect, proxy, etc. on a .us domain. I don't agree with this new law/policy but we are bound by it.
You do not have domain protect on your domain/s (none of yours registered with us is a .us) because you did not order it.
