Sometimes webpages seem to be downloading slow. Lately I've been using Numion (http://www.numion.com/YourSpeed/index.html) when this happens. It's a website that tests the how fast or slow the internet connection is.

Numion is one of several such websites that I've used and my favorite. Results seem pretty good. If you've never used it and want to give it a try, below is how I set it.

1) Click here (http://www.numion.com/YourSpeed/index.html) to visit the website.

2) There's a blue box in the middle with alot of country names. I keep it set to World.

3) I set "Duration" to 10 seconds, "Auto-Repeat" to Do Not Repeat and "Screen Layout" to 41 frames then click the "Start" button...it does its thing for a minute or two and after a minute it posts the results.

4) On the bottom-left is a box titled "Throughput." It's labeled #2 (again on the bottom left). The bottom number (either 2 or 3 digits) reports my internet speed. Most dialup connections are between 25,000 and 50,000. High-speed connections can be alot more, depending on the service plan. For example, my cable is usually around 300,000.

Most of us know that and this but I'll say it anyway, internet will be faster when less people are on (very early or late hours) and will be slower when more people are on (regular hours).

Numion requires Java, which many computers have, so if you don't know what Java is, you can still give it a try. If you do and experience a problem, the bottom of this (http://www.numion.com/YourSpeed/Faq.html) page lists the reasons why it wouldn't under the title "Problems."
