Problems on magic

As many of you are probably aware now, magic is down. Please know that we are aware of the problem and are working to isolate the problem and fix it as fast as possible.

Magic has been brought back online again but we're still working on isolating the cause.

It appears the server was down for exactly one hour.
According to the logs it stopped responding at 8:43 and was started again at 9:43.
I am looking into why our monitors did not see it go down and alert us to it being down, we should have known about it no more than 10 minutes after it died at the most.
Anyhow sorry about not catching it we will get it figured out and fixed as to why we were not notified right away.

We suspect the cause was high server load, as there is a great deal of mysql, php, and other high-resource use on that server. This is a major reason we were already planning on upgrading magic (see previous announcement here (http://forums.12wonderhosting.com/index.php?act=ST&f=2&t=109)). The new opteron server will be far more capable of handling much higher loads especially for php and mysql.

I am going to see if we can do the upgrade and datacenter move on magic sooner than March 5. It will depend on the datacenter as they require 30 days advance notice.

We were able to get the move to a new server started way earlier than March 5 (it cost us $$$ but will be worth it for better performance): Magic move is starting tonight.
